While we are all enjoying the PvE side of the game and making good progress as a guild, one thing that is severely lacking, and we hope is at the top of Trion's list to work on, is the lack of open world PvP in Rift. Despite the Whitefall server being chosen as the 'preferred destination' of top PvP guilds, it's just not happening because there is so little incentive to take part.
Last night Cyrus offered some open world PvP on a plate to the defiants - we told them exactly where we would be, and at what time. I rode to the Defiant capital city and spammed them that we would be in Shimmersands, and that we wanted some action. The response? Nobody turned up to fight us.

We roamed around Shimmersands for a while waiting in hope, but were forced to look elsewhere. We moved on to Stillmore, took over a Defiant camp and all the time yelling at Defiants to bring us a fight. We even stopped killing the few enemies we saw, instead circling them and asking them to spam their own level 50 chat to tell everyone of our location. We waited in the Defiant camp, but again no-one came.

So we gave up on Stillmore, and decided to take the fight to Meridian, the Defiant capital. We rode up to the steps, and called them out. And apart from a few low levels, nobody came. Actually, a few did come out, but they wouldn't PvP-flag themselves, and instead started talking to us about what a well organised guild we are. Epic.
Getting desperate, we sent some members in to Warfronts with the sole intention of spamming the "PvPers" with our location, and asking them to come find us after the warfront. But again, no-one came.
In a last ditch attempt to find some action, we sent over a spy to contact the guild leader of a large Defiant guild. His response: "Sorry, we are in Greenscale". And you know what, if we'd been called out any of 4 nights last week ourselves, the response would likely have been exactly the same. We do however hope to organise a PvP event with this guild in the near future.
It's certainly true that the Defiants on this server, with the exception of a couple of guilds, completely avoid any PvP. So often we see them switch zones instead of come back to fight us. But it's also true that this is Trion's problem to solve. If they don't, then there are a whole lot of people who will move on to the first new game that offers us what we are looking for.
Trion, your move.
