Some guilds in Rift talk the talk about wanting more PvP, while some walk the walk. And then there's Cyrus and Heresy - two guilds that roflstomp everything they see and then go back again for the trolls.
Cyrus issued a direct challenge to all guilds on the server via the official forums to sort out who wanted to get involved in having some PvP fun, and who just wanted to sit on forums all day talking about why it isn't happening. And the first Defiant guild to answer our challenge? None other than our good old friends, Heresy - one of the few Defiant guilds that have earned any respect so far in Rift.

Heresy - like lambs to the slaughter... Vicious little lambs though!
So we organised an evening for some epic guild vs guild action in Shimmersands. We laid down some simple rules - no number restrictions, no corpse camping, and that once a clear winner in battle was obvious, the winning side would ride away to let the losers respawn, rebuff and rethink. That both guilds adhered to this flawlessly was a triumph in itself, and shows that both Cyrus and Heresy are strong, disciplined guilds.
The night wasn't all about rules and fair play though - Heresy saw to that with an opening manoeuvre that made us shout and then laugh at what happened. We set up a guild rally banner in Shimmersands next to the lone Heresy guild leader Methods, and we started zoning in. We even stopped for a nice friendly chat about games and guilds, and some of our members even felt so comfortable as to afk for a few moments before the battle royale began. We didn't take up any kind of fighting position - we just stood there, bunched up, and happily gossiping away. And then Methods calmly announced:
"BTW guys, I have a surprise. Look behind you..."
Out of nowhere, 9000+ angry Heresy members steamrolled straight through us and within seconds we were left staring at our newly formed graveyard and shouting down our microphones. But we couldn't stay angry for long - this was the first strike in what promised to be an awesome evening of battle, and Heresy had set the bar. We just had to respect that.
True to their word, they rode off and let us respawn and lick our wounds. So they have SOME honour then?! We were still a little dazed and confused, and determined to get some bloody revenge. We stormed off in their direction and went piling in. The battle lasted a little longer, but again Heresy got the better of us. "OK," we thought... "These aren't like all the other Defiants we usually steamroll. We may have to actually use some tactics!".
We split into two groups and sent out our spies to locate the Heresy warband. With one group hugging the mountains to the west, and another group waiting to flank from the sands to the east, we found our prey and planned our strike. Our enemy marked this time, we engaged.

You are surrounded! Put your weapons down, and... well, die!
"HOW MANY RESSES DOES THAT DAMN CLERIC HAVE???!" was one of the many questions we asked - Heresy clearly didn't like to leave anyone down, and they put up a strong fight. However this time victory was rewarded to us, and we accordingly moved away leaving Heresy to respawn and think about what they'd gotten themselves into.
We had three or four similar battles, including one awesome encounter where there were only 5 men left standing at the end, and cries on ventrilo as people were running back to their corpses asking who had won. Such fun, and it would be a shame to let on as to who the winners were. Ok ok, it was Cyrus!
After just over an hour, Heresy decided they could take no more (or had to go - details are fuzzy!), and thanked us for a good night. But before we let them leave, we had just one thing we needed to avenge - their trickster beginning which took us by surprise and left us with a bloody nose for the evening. So the orders came through on ventrilo to our Cyrus army:
"Kill them all, except for Methods. I want him alive!!".

Methods is cornered. Don't worry folks, we showed pity on him. Sort of...
Our army dutifully engaged again in battle, making sure not to AoE near the Heresy leader Methods, and killed everyone else in sight. With just Methods left standing there, alone as he was when the evening started but without the support of his mighty army, we circled him and exacted our revenge - Cyrus style. Methods will never be feared again once you see this:

Thank god Crossronin, our resident Welsh member, wasn't at the raid tonight...
And just incase you wanted a close-up:

Heresy guild leader Methods looking a little sheepish...
It was a great night, and we would like to thank all Heresy members who attended, and especially Methods for getting his guild organised. Much respect for the way this was done - it was fun for both guilds, and hopefully will be repeated in the future. It was especially refreshing to be fighting against people who aren't just trying to run away for a change.
