View Full Version : [WoW] Cyrus goes to WoW!

Star Wars: The Old Republic has received a mixed reaction from the members of Cyrus. Whilst we still maintain a strong presense in the game and members are organising regular raids and daily Warzone premade groups, the game has not completely satisfied everyone. With this in mind, and in order to attempt to keep our community together until the next shiny new game comes along (Guild Wars 2, anyone?!), we have decided to set up a Cyrus wing in another game, namely World of Warcraft.

WoW? Yes, really...

Cyrus as a guild has never participated in World of Warcraft, however many of our member have. WoW has a long and successful history, and many MMOers have a love/hate relationship with the game, often returning to check out new patches and content. It therefore seemed like the obvious choice for Cyrus to start afresh and establish some sort of base game we can keep returning to when things aren't quite working out for us in our main MMO. Another advantage is that most members have a WoW account, so do not need to purchase a new game to keep on playing with their friends.

So while WoW may not offer much new in the way of raiding and content, it will present new opportunities for members of Cyrus who wish to stay in touch with their fellow guildies. We will of course take the game as seriously as any other, looking to both expand the guild membership and tackle any content the game throws at us.

Longer term, we are very much looking towards Guild Wars 2, and we hope that this will unite most of our members new and old in a game that will potentially give us the PvP experience we have all been dreaming of since Warhammer Online died. But if we ever feel like getting our 'old school' raid on, WoW is where it'll be.

If you are a member new or old, or just looking for a guild to call your home, check out the rest of our website and get in touch!

Guess I'll see you in GW2 then, I refuse to play WOW and will not be staying with SWTOR. Good luck Cyrus.

I'm actually enjoying it more then I thought I would. I've been gone from WoW for 4 years, so much is changed. But the old feeling got back to me. At least it feels as a MMO, Ogrimmar is packed (and hard to navigate without flying mount).

Leveling goes fast, without much effort i'm 34 now, no Exp bonus and no heirloom gear. The last part makes it a bit harder, since 90% of the people I encounter do have it, and thus are a bigger challenge to kill. I'm currently in Stranglethorn Vale, and it's how I remember. Be on your guard because there is a rogou or something nasty right around the next tree. I already killed more enemies in open world then I killed in SWTOR (not counting ilum farming ofc).

The only downer for me atm is that we are also (like the SWTOR players) with a small playerbase. Some are quite few ahead, so doing the dungeons with 3 or more is quite hard atm.

As for the server itself, there is a queue whenever I log on, but you pass it within 5-10 mins.
If you want more info, just poke me on TS or here on the forums.

In comparison to vanilla/tbc times when it comes to feeling that WoW had back then we all know how it is now and tbh community on most servers isn't really helping situation here as let's face it, majority of players simply doesn't seem to care as long as they get their loot (and ally or horde - doesn't seem to make a difference really). There are just a few servers where situation can be at least just a bit different.

As for the game itself a lot of stuff since Cata launch has been settled. Not all is fixed but those most annoying things I guess are past as they either got fixed/changed by Blizzard or players got used to it. Regarding leveling some ppl may like it, some may not. As for me being able to reach cap in 2-3 weeks with no effort in it at all was always meh. I wouldn't really mind something more in here but then it's the matter of preference really. 80-84 bracket is really fast. If you do it right then it's possibly the fastest one or at least not different than previous ones. Simply if in levels 70-79 you do battlegrounds, get some gold (which is again really easy here) you buy some Cata gear for levels 78-80 on ah then at 80 start Cata content (quests and dungeons). If you choose path of quests + battlegrounds it may take a while to get to 85. However as i progressed with dungeon finder on my frost dk it took me about 15 hours total with no premade (I suppose that with premade I could easily get to this 8 hours record from Cata launch).

Other than that I agree that with proper server community WoW still can be fun. As the matter of fact can't say about SWTOR but in comparison to Rift inside guild - nothing to say as it is always completely different thing. But regarding pugged guys I have to say that from Rift I miss only a few ppl that I have pugged with on any of my 3 chars while in WoW either I was extremely lucky in past months or it is simply the truth that maturity (in bad or good way) is simply not much different. There are "smart" afkers in groups or cleuless morons that either think that they know game better than even Blizzard and comment on everything you do or morons that never learn how to press buttons efficiently but then every MMO has them (and it's not evenr eally more common in WoW than in other games).

And guys that still remember me and go to WoW, gl there, kill that bastard dragon for me;-)

My Experience so far.

open world pvp is out there, indeed. I am level 61 and so far, and I am not trying to bs anyone or exaggerate, I have had more world pvp in wow in one day than I’ve had in swtor lv 1 to 50. Alliance is everywhere, for an old server it is amazing to see people levelling characters and being in low lv areas. There is even a 800 queue, with a 10 minute wait almost every day and server is still high during 4am o.o;

Overall my experience with this server has been great, I have even got ganked by lv 85 or squads of 3 my level roaming around. I seriously can’t wait to get to 85 to start competing in rated bgs/arena. All this pvp + lots of content to go through.

I could understand why people are sceptical about wow open world pvp, that is because it truly depends on the realm you choose. Lots of servers have population balance issues, fortunately for us we have chosen the right server in the sense that alliance dominate the server by a 10% which makes pvp even better.

Now to the pve side of things, queue time for dungeons are less than 7 minutes, as a dps, even for low lv instances. As far raids are concerned everybody knows wow provides the most polished content and, in my opinion, the most fun raiding you can experience and an actual challenge for heroic mode versions with a multitude of game mechanics. There are lots of dailies to be done, lots of things to be done.

For the competitive sides there are arenas, rated bgs and Tol-Barad- equivalent to Illum. Once you capture Tol-Barad you unlock a raid inside the zone.
Right now i get a daily kill count of about 30+ so open world pvp is by far not dead on this server cant say much on the endgame pvp since i havnt reached that level but will report back but right now looks very promising indeed.

At the end of the day don't expect world pvp to be fed to you open world pvp is about unscripted non carrot on a stick pvp its about the players and right now seems like the players on this server want to pvp i should know ive been ganked enough already tho most of them fail :D

Most of the leveling is from soloing/instances pvp at low level doesn't give great exp fastest way is doing instances/quests.

Zero is like always a madman at leveling, most of us are in 20-35 bracket, which doesnt take too long. TBH I actually took my lvl'ing down a notch, so a few can catch up and we can at least do random dungeons with 3 or more, so it helps the guild.
I don't solo instances, since for me the fun comes from seeing how the zones changed in the last 4 years, and during questing you can find open world pvp.

Luckily we have a few 85's who can also team up, and so far I had some nice help from them getting some starter cash and some help in the lowbie dungeons which can boost you pretty fast.

Wouldn't rush (unless you've just levelled other chars recently), it takes around 2 evenings to completely see the newest raid content (minus HM) once you hit max level and not very long to grind a full set of PvP gear either. Enjoy it so you have stuff to do until the true next-gen mmos start appearing ;))

Really not sure why you would want to go and play WoW. You missed the boat by about 4 years and it's well past it's time now. I heard DAOC is still going you might have better open world PvP there.

In any case I have a level 70 undead mage that I haven't played in years. I'll sell it if anyone is interested.

You can e-mail me here telehouse @ googlemail . com

Won't be joining you there I'm afraid. I left RIFT way ahead of the guild itself after I think a month or so. When you moved to SWTOR I initially wanted to join.. until I actually got to play SWTOR. I was staring at my screen in disbelief at level 3 at what that game had become. Kept going until 25, did another class until 19, still didn't see the appeal. I decided not to apply for the guild as I had no desires of playing it past my free month. Have been prepping for GW2 ever since, catching up on the lore by spending my time in GW1. I can't go back to WoW, not after so many years, it's just been too long for that.

I'll re-apply to the GW2 Cyrus guild once you'll accept members again, and hope you'll let me join once more. Had a great time in RIFT, however short it may have been.
Have fun in WoW either way :)
