On Monday 7th September 2009, Cyrus celebrated Open Beta in typical fashion. Typical, that is, for the Asmodian filth that we will be crushing once Aion launches! During the Closed Beta events it was all pom-poms and posing for our Elyos beloved, but as we are playing Asmodian for Open Beta, what better way to get together than with a good old duel night to tear the living " GameGuard" off each other!
With over 20 duellers signed up for our tournament, the mood in Ventrilo was grim. Who would end up with the ultimate bragging rights? Who would be left crying in the dirt? Who would be able to think up the best excuse as to why they lost?!
Our tournament was a straight knockout competition, in the most literal sense. Only one person would be left undefeated to win the prize (there was no actual "prize", but... moving on). Losers in the first round were entered into a Consolation Tournament ensuring each fighter had at least two duels.
The first round was a true spectacle. With everyone fighting simultaneously, the action was fast and chaotic. Everyone had their game face on - glowing red eyes and all! Gemm, surely one of the tournament favourites, was utterly destroyed in the first round by Demyx. In fairness though, she seemed to be somewhat distracted at the fact her back hair didn't quite match her armour. Another interesting matchup was between Ihq and Stellar - two Spiritmasters clearly at the top of their game. The 4 level gap gave Ihq the advantage on this occasion.
In the Consolation Tournament, Stellar (rank 10 Spiritmaster) and Anadia (rank 13 Sorcerer) made the final. Special mention should first go to RoyalTiger, who made it through to the semi-finals, but “GameGuard” struck and he lost his connection to the game. Unable to re-log back in, he generously forfeited. The final then, cheered on by all previous participants, was won by Stellar. That's a great showing for an underpowered class the Spiritmaster!
In the Main Event rounds that followed, Akir and Siwar put up a very strong challenge, but the two finalists were Makenshi, rank 17 Assassin, and Ihq, rank 14 Spiritmaster. Surely we couldn't have another upset on our hands? Makenshi put up an extremely good fight, but even the 3 level advantage couldn’t swing things his way. It was Ihq who was victorious, winning the final and the tournament. Well done!

Our 2 victorious Spiritmasters catch everyone else napping!
Main Event Winner: Ihq
Consolation Event Winner: Stellar
Unfortunately the apathetic mumbles of "congratulations" quickly turned to shouts of "Nerf Spiritmasters!" on Ventrilo, and already several bug reports have been filed with NCSoft. But that shouldn't take away from the success of our two Spiritmaster winners, Ihq and Stellar. Well done lads!
